What Is the Intelligent Octopus Tariff & How Does It Work With Ohme Home Pro EV Charger?

If you are an electric vehicle driver, switching to an EV tariff will help you to save significantly on the cost of charging your car at home.

Wondering which is the best EV tariff in the UK for you? The Intelligent Octopus tariff is currently one of the most popular EV tariffs available. In this blog we'll take a look at the tariff and the Ohme Home Pro EV Charger that allows you to take full advantage of the new tariff.

What is an EV Tariff?

EV tariffs allow users to charge their car affordably, by using low cost energy overnight when demand is at its lowest. Your energy usage is monitored half hourly and sent directly to your energy supplier through your smart meter. This allows your energy supplier to charge you at a rate set specifically for the time of day you are using your energy.

What is the Intelligent Octopus Tariff?

Octopus Energy has recently introduced a new EV tariff called Intelligent Octopus. This tariff provides users with energy at a much cheaper rate for six hours every night between 11:30pm and 5:30am. The reduced rate charging period applies to any electricity usage between the set hours. This means that you could choose to run your dishwasher, washing machine, immersion heater or charge up anything with a battery at a cheap rate whilst also saving on charging your car.

The tariff combines with the Octopus App to allow users to set their target charge level and by what time this target should be met. Octopus then works out the cheapest times to charge with the greenest electricity whilst still achieving your target charge level by the specified time. If you need your car sooner than you originally set in the app, you can apply a "bump charge" to begin charging your car immediately.

How much does it cost to charge an electric car with Octopus?

The off-peak rate available with the Intelligent Octopus tariff is currently set at just 10p/kWh, while peak rates are variable according to your location. You can check the tariff rates in your area by putting your postcode into the rate checker on the Octopus Energy website

What Is The Ohme Home Pro EV Charger?

Currently, in order to take advantage of the Intelligent Octopus tariff, you must either be using an Ohme Home Pro to charge your vehicle or meet other eligibility criteria. The Ohme Home Pro EV Charger and the Intelligent Octopus tariff work together to provide a smart, green and great value EV charging tariff that is kinder to the planet and your wallet.

This smart EV Charger comes complete with either a 5m or 8m Type 2 charging cable that is compatible with most mainstream electric vehicles. A clear LCD screen displays live charging information and provides users with clear updates on their charge schedule and CO2 consumption.

The Home Pro offers quick and simple installation with built in earthing to prevent the need for messy and costly installations. 4G connectivity keeps the Ohme Pro online and able to receive updates and information automatically.

We hope this blog has given you the information you need about the Ohme Home Pro and Intelligent Octopus.

Note: The Ohme Home Pro can be used in conjunction with any energy supplier but rates and benefits may differ
